Titus 2

2 – What To Teach Older Men

2Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

Notes: “and in endurance” – To endure whatever sufferings we may be called to for the sake of Christ and his Gospel.

6-8 – Teachings For Young Men

6Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.

7In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness

8and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

Notes: “soundness of speech” – We should teach with the same wholesome words our Lord Jesus used and the doctrines of the Gospel should be expressed as close as they can be in with the words that the Holy Ghost instructs into us. We should be leery of words that come from man’s own wisdom.

12 – Say No To The World

12It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

Notes: A true believer should be denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, living soberly, righteously, and godly, refusing temptations, not be a corrupt example, and should battle all the sin that remains in their heart after receiving their new birth.

15 – Encourage And Rebuke

15These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

Notes: We should never give the world just cause to hate us. That isn’t saying the world won’t hate us, because they surely will. Men who don’t know the Lord will definitely despise a true disciple/minister of His word.

Who We Should Be From Titus 2 - temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, have sound faith, live in love, endure trials eagerly, live reverently, honorable teachers of the word, lovers of our spouses and children, self-controlled, pure, hard workers, kind, submissive and subservient, teaching with integrity seriousness and soundness of speech, trustworthy, and eager to do what is good in the eyes of the Lord
