2 Timothy 4

2 – Our Charge To Preach The Word

2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

Note:  Those of us who care about the souls of others should be watchful.  We must bear the painful effects of our faithfulness and we must take every opportunity to make the pure gospel known.

3-4 – Some Will Suit Their Own Desires

3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Note:  We are living in a society were the so called “Christians” choose to attend churches that preach a gospel that is pleasing, agreeable, and natural to men and our carnal minds.  I call it the “Hyper-Grace Movement”.

7-8 – Keep The Faith And Receive The Crown Of Righteousness

7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Note:  We should be faithful with our trust in the Lord and should act as excellent stewards of the mysteries of God.  It is our duty to make known the gospel and the reasons it is profitable to a lost world. If we do this, when we pass away here on earth, we will receive the crown of righteousness.

18 – The Lord Will Rescue Us

18The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Note:  Believers are secure in an everlasting covenant made in the hands of Christ.  God Himself is a wall of fire around us and we are kept by his power and salvation for all eternity.

Titus 1

6-8 – Qualifications For An Elder

6An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

7Since an overseer[b] is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

8Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

Note:  An elder must have one wife and obedient children.  He must be self-controlled and discipline.  He must not have any major accusation of sin around him, not have a temper, not get drunk, not be violent, not be dishonest.  Shouldn’t this be a qualification for every Christian.  The “Hyper Gracy’s” would say the opposite.  It’s not about the do’s and don’ts, it’s all about Him, which in a way is true.  But, in our relationship with Him our do’s and don’ts glorify Him to the world.

15-16 – When Our Actions Deny Him

15To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

16They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

Note:  Nothing is pure to those people who are corrupt and unbelieving.  They will abuse the gospel and turn things that are considered lawful and good into sin. They will profess to know God, but in their lives they will deny and reject him.  We should be very careful to lay this charge on others though and daily we should make sure it does not apply to ourselves.
