2 Timothy 2

5-6 – Living Life According To The Lord’s Rules

5Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor’s crown unless he competes according to the rules.

6The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.

Note: No man that calls himself a Christian, minister, or any other, can expect the crown of life unless he runs the race set before him in the proper way.

11-13 – Die To This World And Live With Him

11Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;

12if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;
13if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

Note: If we are dead to this world (its pleasures, profits, honors) we shall be for ever with Christ in a better world. He is faithful in His threatening and faithful to His promises. This truth makes sure the unbeliever’s condemnation, and the believer’s salvation.

16 – Avoid Gossip

16Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.

19 – Turn Away From Our Wickedness

19Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,”[a] and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”

Note: Everyone whom calls them self a Christian must depart from worldly wickedness. Those of us who take comfort in the privilege of being saved and living in Him must realize and act upon the duty that being a Christian puts on us. If we call ourselves Christian we must depart from wickedness or else Christ will not own us. He will say on judgment day (Mt. 7:23), Depart from me, I never knew you, you workers of wickedness.

22 – Pursue Righteousness, Faith, Love, Peace, And A Pure Heart

22Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

24-26 –  Show Other’s Error With Gentle Instruction

24And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

25Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,

26and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Note: Teaching gently, not by persecuting, is the Scriptures method of how we should deal with those who are in error.  We aren’t the judge and we can’t know if He will give repentance to those who oppose his will. Sinners are taken in a snare and become slaves to the devil.  If any body longs for deliverance we should remind them and teach them that they never can escape except by repentance.  Repentance is the gift of God and we must ask it from Him alone using earnest and persevering prayer.
