2 Thessalonians 1

2 Thessalonians 1

4 – Note: Persecutions and trials that we endure as Christians are evidence that God is just.

6-7 – The Lord Will Pay Back Those Who Trouble Us

6God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you

7and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well.

Notes: This isn’t speaking about the everyday people who sin against us, it is speaking about those who sin against us “because of our faith”.

“give relief to you who are troubled” – Probably more of a promise for after our death rather than for here on earth.  We will rest in eternity free from hard and stressful work and free from sin and the temptations of Satan.

8-9 – God Will Punish Unbelievers With Everlasting Destruction

8He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

9They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power

Notes: I believe that the ignorance of not knowing God is sin…what I mean is, those who don’t know Christ, still should know the invisible perfections of His nature or they will be punished with “everlasting destruction”.

11-12 – The Apostle Prayer

11With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.

12We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Notes: Because we have no worthiness of our own, and we owe everything to the grace of God, we should pray that he would make us worthy, and then count us worthy, of His calling.  We should pray that through every thing we do and desire, that Christ may be glorified.  Our own happiness and the happiness of others should be subordinate to His glory!
