1 Timothy 4
7-8 – Train Yourself To Be Godly
7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.
8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
Notes: To be more like Christ or “to be godly” takes self discipline. It is a self discipline to follow the Lord’s doctrines. We should study, meditate, and deliver these principles to others. We should learn how to exercise the graces of faith, hope, love, fear, reverence, humility. And we must learn to worship with true reverence, which takes over our whole heart.
12-13 – Set An Example In Your Words, Actions, And With Your Heart
12Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.
Notes: The demands put on us, if we are to be Christian leaders, are all inclusive, involving not only our words, but our lifestyle. Pray that the Lord makes me more like Him in my thoughts, words, and actions.
15-16 – Give Yourself Wholly To Becoming Godly
15Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.
16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
Notes: We must teach by our life. Our speech must be encouraging; our conversation must be holy; we must be examples of love to God and to others that the Lord puts in our path. We must be examples of spiritual-mindedness. Pray I begin to “give myself wholly” to these principles and doctrines.
1 Timothy 5
5-6 – The Single Christian Puts Their Hope In God
5The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help.
6But the widow who lives for pleasure is dead even while she lives.
Notes: So called Christians who live in pleasure, are dead while they live, spiritually dead, dead in trespasses and sins. If they consistently act upon their lusts and pleasures, they have denied the faith, and are worse than infidels.
19-20 – We Are To Rebuke Elders Publicly
19Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses.
20Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning.
Notes: Elders are to be disciplined publicly in front of the congregation basically to be made an example of.
24-25 – Some Sins Are Outward Where The World Can See, Others Are In Secret Parts Of Our Hearts
24The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them.
25In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden.
Notes: We are to use our bodies in service to the Lord. There are sins that are secret and there are sins that are open: some of our sins are open to others before-hand; some of our sins come out after we have committed or hidden them. God will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make known all of the sins of our hearts.

Excellent comments on the Scripture. Be careful that the accusations against any leader are valid before you go public.
